S/Sgt Raymond V Fritter was a Gunner in the Jeter Flight Crew. The Jeter crew were assigned to combat duty with the 392nd Bombardment Squadron in Nov 1944. They flew missions out of Saipan, and Iwo Jima was their most frequent target. The Jeter crew transferred into the 26th Bombardment Squadron in the 11th Bomb Group in Feb 1945 on Guam. From there they continued to bomb Chichi Jima and Haha Jima.

The Jeter Flight Crew may be the best documented of any flight crew in the 7th Air Force. There was a 2005 PBS documentary about them called "The Jeeter Bug: Mission over Iwo Jima". There was also a book written about them in 2013 by V.C. Partland: "Brothers at Daybreak: World War II B-24 crew beats the odds over Pacific waters".

The Jeter crew flew a wide range of different planes while they were with the 392nd Bomb Squadron, but one plane they flew the most frequently was called BATHLESS (#42-109838).

WITH THE 7TH AIR FORCE BOMB GROUP. OKINAWA, July 29 (Delayed).—The B-24 Jeter Bug on which four Texans have flown 32 combat missions together during the past 13 months, got its first crack at the Japanese homeland this week. The big Liberator dropped its bombs on Honshu, and Staff Sgt. Doyle Ebel of Houston, tail gunner, said “we got more flak there than on all our other 31 missions put together.” The plane, a veteran of 81 combat missions, has been hit by anti-aircraft fire five times but no member of the crew has been hurt. It is named for the first pilot, 1st Lt. W. F. Jeter, Dallas. Other Texans in the crew are 1st Lt. Herbert Harter. Amarillo, co-pilot, and Staff Sgt. Victor Crowell of Lamesa, nose gunner. The Jeter Bug is part of the oldest bomber squadron in the Air Forces, the one of which Capt. Colin Kelly was a member before he crashed to death while bombing the Jap battleship Haruna. The squadron was at Hawaii when the Japs struck Pearl Harbor, and its fliers have fought back up through New Caledonia, the Solomons, Tarawa, Guam and now Okinawa. The squadron has made 29 moves during this war. The Jeter Bug crew is sweating out its required eight more combat missions, after which members are due to go home for a rest. Jeter’s wife and two children and his mother, Mrs. Minnie Jeter, live in Dallas. Harter's mother, Mrs. Edna Harter, lives in Dumas, and Ebel's wife lives in Houston. Ebel's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ebel, also live in Houston. Crowell’s wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Crowell, live in Lamesa. Group navigator for this outfit is Capt. Cecil Smith Jr., West Los Angeles, who formerly lived in! Fort Worth. His father, former oil operator in Texas, is a mining engineer in California. Smith is a cousin of Miss Betty Claire Schmid and Ens. Mickey Schmid of Fort Worth. This veteran outfit, accustomed to making itself comfortable on uncomfortable islands, has a carbonated water machine that is the ultimate in GI ingenuity. With two reclaimed airplane oxygen tanks and a drum of carbon dioxide gas, the fliers are able to mix soft drinks with carbonated water — something unusual for combat outfits.
