Harold T. Bryant was one of the decorated soldiers known as the Fighting Tigers of the 10th Armored Division of General Patton's third army.

When I was a high school freshman studying History, our teacher told us to talk to our parents who had been in the war to find out what it was like. When I asked dad what he did in the war his only comment was "I was a cook." He would never talk of any activities that took place during his tour of duty.

It was not until 2010 that I discovered what he really did in the war. He fought many battles including Normandy, Bastogne, and the Rhineland in Germany. He may have cooked a meal or two along the battle trail, but his actual job listed on his military records was "truck driver." The type of truck he drove was called a half-track. He and others driving other trucks would follow the tanks, and provide items such as ammunition, supplies and equipment, as well as transporting foot soldiers, and providing battle support when necessary--which was most of the time after landing in Normandy.

The efforts of the 10th Armored Division was a leading factor in the conclusion of the war. Several books have been written about the Fighting Tigers whose motto, beginning in training, was "terrify and destroy!"
