Stephen Bawolak, Jr. was the son of Julie & Stephen Bawolak, Sr. He married Gladys Marie Daudent. They were the parents of Stephen Patterson Mark Bawolak III who died at 8 days old 15 Apr 1943.

He died on Christmas Day 1944 when a P-47 hit the LVT (Landing Vehicle Tracked) that he was serving on as it traveled to Christmas services on the Island of Leyte, Eastern Visayas, Philippines. Originally buried on Leyte. The body was disinterred and family had the choice to have him brought back to the USA for burial or sent to the Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines. His wife, as next of kin, had him brought home for burial in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA.

Four other men in his Battalion also died at the same time, Arthur Black, Adrian Jay Davis, Thomas E Cook, Earl Everett Turner. One was seriously injured, William E Myers.
