William “Bill” Liechti

Following school, Bill entered the U.S. Navy, January 1943. His three older brothers, Alfred, Walt, and Ernest were already serving in the Army at the time Bill had enlisted. Bill's oldest brother, John, was considered the head of the household after their father had died in 1926 in a hunting accident. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946, stationed in the Pacific on several islands during that time as part of the P.A.T.S.U. 1-7 ordinance, servicing the Black Cats, amphibious PBY-Catalina planes during the Pacific Theatre.

Ernest Liechti enlisted 4 Feb 1941 at Aberdeen, SD, and was a corporal in Battery D 749th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. He served as squad leader for Squadron 745. He saw action in France, The Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe. He was honorably discharged on 31 Oct 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI. He farmed near Seneca until his death in Aug, 1969.

His three brothers Walt, Alfred, and Bill also served in World War II.

Walter Liechti

Walter enlisted in the National Guard on 4 Feb 1941. He was a pvt. serving as a truck driver in Tunisia, and in Italy near Naples and Foggia. He was wounded on 3 Jan 1944 and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged at Camp McCoy, WI on 30 Aug 1945. He lived in Faulkton, SD until his death in 1988.
