U.S. Army Air Forces Tech. Sgt. Max W. Lower, 23, of Lewiston, was the radio operator on the bomber that was shot down over Romania on Aug. 1, 1943.

Max Lower was killed when his plane was shot down during the Operation Tidal Wave attacks on Romanian oil refineries during the war.
