"Fidel F Gonzales, 39 687 364, Sergeant, Infantry, Headquarters Company, 67th Armored Battalion, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on 12 Apr 1945 near Rosrath Germany while on a mission to cut demolition wires on a bridge Sergeant Gonzales’ platoon encountered intense enemy machine gun and mortar fire. Despite this opposition, he maneuvered his vehicle into firing position and covered the platoons withdrawal by firing his machine gun. He remained at this post in spite of enemy action until his entire unit was safely withdrawn. His exemplary conduct was a source of inspiration to his fellow soldiers.
