He was born 30 January 1915 to Frances Henry Folck and Maude Louise Purcell Folck in Vincennes, IN. Two girls were stillborn in the next few years, thus he was an only child. He was names Francis Ellis Folck, even though his name was entered in official records as Ellis Folck until his corrected it in the 1980's.

He married Virginia Ruth Cooper on 4 June 1944 in Carlisle, IN. They honeymooned in Bloomington, IN and Indianapolis. They had an apartment on 9th St. in Vincennes. They bought a lot on the lane past Simpson's (Sylvan's) Lake east of Vincennes and built a house there. They moved in about Dec. 1949. In Aug. 1959 they moved to Bloomington. The rented a house at 671 Skyline Dr. for 8 years, then built a house on Marlin Dr. where they lived until 2000.

They had two children: Sharon Sue born in 1947 and
Douglas Warren born in 1957.

Fran died 10 January 2000. Ruth moved to the Franklin United Methodist Home in Franklin, IN, where she died 12 February 2012.
