R. J. Mennemeyer, Veteran, Dies

Ralph J. Mennemeyer of 41 Ice Rose Lane, Henrietta, a World War II veteran who survived three ship sinkings, one of them on Pearl Harbor Day died in Northside Hos-pital Saturday (20 NOV 1965)

Mr. Mennemeyer. 44, a salesman in upstate New York, and part of Pennsylvania for the Solo Paper Cup Co. of Chicago, had been ill since late December.

He was a boatswain's mate first class in the war, and was on the battleship California when it was sunk at Pearl Harbor. Mr. Mennemeyer was hospitalized with injuries but, because of a records mixup, was listed as missing for 30 days.

The other sinkings were of the supply ship Astoria, in the South Pacific and a submarine rescue ship, the Macaw. Both were torpedoed. Mr Mennemeyer was a diver on the Macaw.

He moved here eight years ago from Atlanta. Ga. Mr. Mennemeyer was a member, of the Allied Paper Salesmans Association in New York; the Sun Vallev Golf and Country Club in Scottsville; the parents group at St Andrews Seminary and the Mens Club at Guardian Angels Church in Henrietta.

Mr Mennemeyer leaves his widow, Dorothy; two daughters, Dorothy and Mary; three sons, Stephen, Ralph and Thomas; his mother, Mrs Dorothy Mennemeyer, of St Louis; three sisters, Mrs Donald T. Langan of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. James F. Baxter and Mrs. John J. Feulner of St. Louis; and two brothers, Paul J. and Elmer J. of St. Louis.
