Thomas Allen Mills, born in 1834, lived in Baltimore, Maryland and worked as a grocer. He was called to serve in the Union and enlisted July 22, 1862 at the age of 28 as a 2nd lieutenant in Baltimore, Maryland. He was initially commissioned into “G” company in Maryland’s 4th infantry but later was promoted and moved to “E” company. He was wounded twice, once in his left foot, and once in his right leg. He did not survive the war.[1]

Thomas Mills was wounded on his left foot May 8, 1864 at Lauren Hill, VA.[1]

In June 1864 he was absent from battle due to the wounds received, he was back at his residence in Baltimore, Maryland. Alex B. Halson extended his leave by 20 days since June 13, 1864. [3]

On July 1st, 1864 Thomas Mills was promoted from 2nd lieutenant, “G” company to 1st lieutenant, “E” company. Then was mustered in as such July 11th, 1864 by Captain N.T. Gentry 17 U.S. infantry. [3]

August 18th, 1864 Thomas Mills was injured on his right leg at Weldon Railroad, VA. [1]

Thomas Mills died August 23, 1864 at City Point, VA near Petersburg due to wounds received in battle; he did not survive the war. [2]
