Grover J. Loftin was a Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Grover resided in Poweshink County, Iowa before enlisting on 9 Feb 1943. At the time of enlistment, Grover was 21 years old, had 1 year of college education and was single, without dependents. One year later, Grover was captured by Nazi Germany, and was sent to Stalag Luft 4 -Tychow (formerly Heydekrug) Pomerania, Prussia (moved to Wobbelin Bei Ludwigslust) near Grosstychow, Prussia where 6,660 other American POWs were held. Grover's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on 29 May 1944, and the last report was made on 31 May 1945. Based on these two reports, Grover was imprisoned for 1 year and 1 month, about the average for U.S. POWs. Ultimately, Grover was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated.
