Ninian Chamberlain, Esq.

T

he eldest son of Jeremiah Chamberlain (1740-1829) and Margaret Carmichael (1765-1821), of Grainger Co., TN. In 1817, Ninian Chamberlain, named for his paternal grandfather, married Margaret Watkins, in Jefferson Co., TN, and went to live in a log house on a plot of land near Corryton, Knox Co., just east of House Mtn., which his father had given the couple as a wedding present. Jeremiah, a surveyor, had apparently received the property as a land grant for his service during the Revolution. H.; Anne E.; Jeremiah J. (Jerry); Ara Jane; Thos. A.; Margaret A. (Maggie); and Ninian Abraham (N. A.). Some of them stayed in TN, while others moved on to TX. Margaret died in 1863. Ninian was for many years a justice of the peace for the eastern area of Knox Co. Chamberlain-Little cemetery is located on the farm.
