Leonard Schilling, a cement contractor, died at 4:10 p.m., Friday at his home, 1209 Buttonwood Street, as the result of a carbuncle on his neck. Mr. Schilling was in his 59th year. He was taken ill four weeks ago and was bedfast the greater part of the time.

He was born May 19, 1863, in Brooklyn, but he lived in Reading practically all his life, coming here when a lad. He was a son of Leonard and Rose (nee Maurer) Schilling. Deceased was a cement contractor for 20 years and was engaged in this business with his son, John. The firm traded under the name of L. Schilling & Son, and had yards at 530 Linden St. Mr. Schilling made his home on Buttonwood Street for 17 years.

Deceased was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Camp 163, P.O.S. of A., Hampden Fire Co., Fireman's Relief Association, Chamber No. 28, Knights of friendship, and the German Beneficial Association.

Surviving are his widow, Maggie (nee Gehert) Schilling, and these children: John, of Oley; Emma, wife of Charles A. Seyfert, Reading; Marguerite, wife of George Hittner, at home, and Edmund, of this city; 17 grand children, a stepbrother, Frank Custer, of Jersey City, and two stepsisters, Miss Tessle Custer, Jersey City, and Laura, widow of George Milden, of Bayonne, N.J.
