Grimes, Herman Roger (1922)

erman Roger Grimes was born January 19, 1922 in Etoile, Nacogdoches County, Texas, USA.. The son of Lee Lafette Grimes (1900-1937) and Dollie Melissa Holland (1901-1994). Herman attended Etoile High school. He entered the Army in 1942, trained at Camp Wolters and Camp Chaffee Arkansas. He served in Company C of the 68th. Armored Infantry. in the Rhineland and North Appennines. He was wounded in action in January of 1945, and discharged in September of 1945. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medel, a EAME Ribbon, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart. Herman married La Nelle McCauley. They had two sons together.: Roger and Randy. He worked for the County of Nacogdoches as a Maintainer Operator. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He passed away in Nacogdoches on August 19, 1965 from Heart Failure at the age of 43. He is buried in the Lowery section of Smyrna Cemetery in Etoile, Texas.
