After his first service in 1861, George apparently re-enlisted at least one more time. A record of the 3rd Pa. Cavalry reports: “Geo. Kite, private, Co. F., recruited at Phila., mustered 1 Jan. 1864 for 3 year term, deserted 4 April 1864, Vet. Vol.” If this is our George Kite, it would possibly explain why he moved to California.
