At 10:18 pm, May 4, 1971, Taps sounded to the listening ears of another Veteran of the United States Army of World War I. This time it is Henry Kerr. He passed away at the Osborrne County Memorial Hospital in Osborne, Kansas.

He was born February 14, 1894 at Lincoln, Kansas. He has been a resident of the Cozy Corner Nursing Home in Downs for several months. He had been in ill health for years and spent much time in the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was 77 years and three months of age.

His parents were James Elliott and Lula May Adamson Kerr. He was married to Miss Nellie Dickerson at Huron, South Dakota. To this union six children were born: William B., Floyd, Harold H., James and Malcolm. One daughter, Wilma May Kerr, died in infancy in 1925. Their mother passed away September 2, 1941.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Lincoln, and a member of the Glen W. Bottorff Post No. 11 American Legion, and was a faithful member as long as his health permitted him to do so.

He was married to Mrs. Rachel Allen of Claudell, Kansas. They made their home in Downs until his health became necessary to enter Veterans Hospital and then to a skilled nursing home. He was a good neighbor and friend, honest and an upright citizen of our nation he defended.

He is survived by his widow, Rachel, of Smith Center; sons and wives, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Kerr, Salina; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd B. Kerr and James Kerr, Denver, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Kerr, El Cajon, California; and Malcolm Kerr; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Bennie Kerr, San Antonio, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Youngberg and Mrs. Golda Ellis, Salina; Mrs. Gladys Pistole of Hastings, Neb, and Mrs. Thelma Pistole of Dayton, Kentucky; nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held May 7, at 2:00 o'clock pm at the Domoney Funeral Home in Downs with reverend Francis Runyon officiating. Pallbearers were his four sons, Floyd, William, James and Harold. Burial was in the Lincoln City Cemetery, Lincoln, with military graveside services.
