Dunbar R. Ransom

unbar Richard Ransom was born in Fayetteville, NC on 10 January, 1831. Oldest son of Truman B. & Margaretta Morrison (nee Greenfield) Ransom. Was a cadet at West Point from 1847-1850. He transfered to Norwich University in 1850 when his father, Truman B. Ransom, became the second president of the university. He graduated with his B.S. degree in 1851. Joined the Army in June, 1855 & served until his dismissal in Oct. of 1872. In 1894 he was restored at the rank of Captain & placed on the retired list. Served gallantly during the Civil War & was wounded at Gettsyburg. Staitioned at several forts throughout his military career both pre and post Civil War. In his later years he worked for the Union Pacific, Southern Pacific & Dallas & Fort Worth Railroads & was in charge of the supply department. Retired in Jan. 1895. Passed away in Fort Worth, TX on 11 July, 1897.
