I was about four years old and my first memory of Uncle Ervin was when he got in the backseat of the car that night at Lou's the black bootlegger between the sawmill and the swamp in Shannon NC. He was traveling with us back to Charlotte to visit for a few days. He had got a can of beer to drink on the trip. He decided to give me a taste of the beer. After the taste the battle began between us over the can of beer. He called for my mother & dad to help stop me, but I had the beer holding it tight to my chest pushing it into the corner of the backseat and the rear door. I knew I had won the battle when they began to laugh. Dad had to stop at Lilly Mae Woods a Indian bootlegger in Walkulla NC. to replace my beer I had claimed from Uncle Ervin. We sat and drank together until I fell asleep….BJL
